‘Challenging and varied’

Staff have their say

Introducing: Olf Uineken at Veenstra Technology

My name is Olf Uineken and I am 52 years old. I joined Veenstra Technology 36 years ago as a 16-year-old trainee. I then moved on to the role of lathe operator. I really enjoy this job.

What is your role at Veenstra Technology?
Turner. As a turner, I carry out machining operations and work with a wide variety of materials on the lathe, such as steel and bronze. I make many components for propeller assemblies, such as flanges and propeller shafts. Making components for propeller assemblies is my speciality. The best thing I’ve had the chance to do during my time at Veenstra is making a rudder shaft from Ampco bronze. This is a wear-resistant type of bronze.

What do you enjoy most about working at Veenstra Technology?
The atmosphere within the company and the fact that, at Veenstra Technology, we create our own products for our customers make working at Veenstra Technology both challenging and varied.
