How does CNC milling work?

CNC milling is a machining technique in which material is precisely removed using a rotating milling cutter. The movements of the milling cutter are pre-programmed and executed under computer control via Computer Numerical Control (CNC). This produces controlled chips and shapes the material step by step into the desired form. Thanks to this automation, machining operations are repeatable and suitable for mass production. Using techniques such as 2D and 3D milling, we produce both flat contours and complex shapes from a CAD model.

CNC milling in various industries

CNC milling is used in industries where precise dimensions and reproducibility are essential. Depending on the shape, material and batch size, we tailor the milling process to your application. Some of the sectors in which CNC milling plays an important role are:

  • Mechanical Engineering: for mounting plates, racks and gearbox housings that need to fit precisely within an installation;
  • Engineering industry: for the mass production of parts of consistent quality;
  • Processing industry: for bespoke components in a wide range of materials, including metal and plastic;
  • Maintenance and overhaul: for replicating or optimising existing components through reverse engineering.

Other metalworking processes

In addition to CNC milling, Veenstra Technology also offers the option of having components developed using other metalworking techniques. For example, we can assist you with:
