Veenstra Technology metering valves

Dosing valves are used when not only on-off control but also fine control is required. They precisely regulate the outflow of bulk materials from silos, for example via a slide gate or drum. This makes them suitable for processes where constant dosing is required. Examples include applications such as packaging lines, loading lorries or feeding into mixing plants. In sectors such as cement and minerals, they help to ensure a consistent product flow. The valve operates continuously and also closes completely when necessary.

Typical applications of metering valves

Dosing valves regulate the flow and are often installed beneath silo outlets for powders such as cement, lime or fly ash. Loading often begins at a high flow rate, followed by precise adjustment to achieve the desired weight. In terminals, these valves are also used on airslide systems for continuous flow. Air injection keeps the powder in motion whilst the opening is adjusted. In packaging lines, metering valves precisely control the quantity fed into bags or containers. In batch processes, too, they ensure stable and repeatable dosing per cycle.

Key benefits and features

  • The variable opening of a rotary valve or drum enables precise flow control, resulting in accurate dosing. The flow of bulk material can be adjusted continuously, from full load to trickle feeding. This is important for a stable feed and precise weighing. This is particularly valuable in finely tuned processes.
  • In combination with air injection, the continuous material transport using fluidisation ensures that powders continue to flow. An air chamber beneath the valve blows air through the product, causing it to behave like a fluid. This keeps the flow going, even at low feed rates. This prevents bridging or blockages.
  • Even when the dosing stops, the absolute shut-off remains completely reliable. The mechanism closes the valve completely, preventing leakage or false air. High-quality seals, such as felt rings and gaskets, keep the shut-off dust-tight. This ensures that the system remains pressure-tight and safe to use.
  • Thanks to its robust housing and wear-resistant design, the heavy-duty construction ensures a long service life. Seals and other components are easy to replace. The choice of materials can be adapted to the bulk material being handled, such as stainless steel for corrosive powders or hard steel for abrasive materials. This ensures stable operation, even during continuous use.
  • Depending on the process, there are various options for automating and controlling the valve. These include controlled pneumatic cylinders, electric motors or manual fine-tuning. Position controllers provide precise feedback to the control system. This allows the valve to be seamlessly integrated into an automated dosing system.

With Veenstra Technology metering valves, you can control bulk flow accurately and reliably. You prevent product loss, improve loading accuracy and maintain a constant feed to your process. Each valve is tailored to your application, from cement loading to fine chemicals. This ensures you always achieve the right balance between throughput capacity and dosing control.
