9 flocculation agitators for industrial water treatment

Commissioned by RWB Watersystems in Almelo, Veenstra has supplied nine agitators to an industrial water treatment plant (IWZ) operated by North Water in Garmerwolde. North Water is a joint venture between Evides Industriewater and Waterbedrijf Groningen. With its new industrial water treatment plant and the transmission pipelines for drinking and industrial water, North Water supplies industry in Eemshaven, with Google as its first major customer. The water required is extracted as fresh water from the Eems Canal. With the new industrial water treatment plant, North Water is enhancing the security of supply in north-east Groningen.

Background
Eemshaven has undergone significant development in recent years. As a result, there is a growing demand for industrial water from north-east Groningen for use as cooling and process water. Surface water from the new Garmerwolde Industrial Water Treatment Plant (IWZ) is used for this purpose, ensuring that drinking water sources are preserved for the drinking water supply. Veenstra agitators are used for flocculation at the new industrial water treatment plant. Flocculation is used to remove poorly settleable and colloidal particles from the water.

Liver size
For this project, Veenstra supplied a total of 9 flocculation agitators in three different types. Three units of each type were supplied. The G-values range from 5 to 30, 20 to 60 and 50 to 110 s⁻¹. The motor powers range from 0.75 kW to 1.5 kW, and agitators with both 2-blade and 4-blade pitch blade agitator bodies were supplied. The propeller shafts are split, 6,300 mm long and made from duplex material.
